Next week our very first midterms will be released. It’s amazing to think that the first chunk of the school year is past!

“The days are long, and the years are short”.

Below are some dates to keep in mind:

Fundraiser forms due Sept. 21st

Fall Frenzy is Oct. 7th at WMMW. Please come out and support the school at a really fun family event. You can always come bid on my pie!

Monday Sept. 17th: Math 7 will have their first test. We will review on Friday and students should know what to study to do well.

After an extremely long weekend, I am back at school for this week. Although it has thrown a wrench in my rhythm by staying home sick on Tuesday and Wednesday it made me appreciate my students even more upon returning. I know that it is an excuse, but has slowed some of our progress as we spent most of today catching up. In terms of the future, Pre-Algebra will have their first test on Monday, and Science classes will have their first test on next Tuesday. Make sure to get any missing assignments in as soon as possible so you are ready for these assessments. If parents or students are feeling nervous, please work with the study guides that will be made available tomorrow in class. Some students will be hitting the point in their academic careers when studying becomes a serious need. Any questions on how to study? Ask me in class or via email for tips on how to create a routine that works for you.

As always, feel free to email me at jbecker@wcpss.net with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mr. Becker

Well, the first two weeks of school are done with. I hope everyone enjoys the long 3 day weekend. There is a scheduled grade update which I will begin working on after writing this post. If you don’t have a SPAN account you can get one by coming to the school and filling out a form. Just make sure you bring a photo ID so that we can notarize it and get you set up. If there is ever a discrepency between the two week update please email me and I can instantly forward you an up-to-the-minute progress report. I’m also considering sending home progress reports electronically, but that will require a little more technological finagling. I also like to remind parents, take this report with a grain of salt. There are very very few things to report on and one missing (or absent) assignment could make things look terrible. Grades are an average of the pattern of completion and learning so we need more data before it becomes accurate. Please email me with any questions.

Dear Students and Parents:

Welcome to a brand new year! The 2009-2010 school year begins on Tuesday, August 25th bright and early. This website exists to help keep you informed about what’s going on. If you would like to contact me, the best way is through email. jbecker@wcpss.net I check my email multiple times each day (and sporadically on weekends). I will try to respond as quickly as possible.

On the left side you will find links to individual classes. There you will find information about what we are doing in class along with posted homework assignments. Students will write down their homework every day at the beginning of class but that is an additional resource should you need it.

For the first few weeks we will be focusing on the rhythm of daily activities and routines. By Monday we will be in the full swing of things. Math will begin by reviewing some of last years skills, and science will begin exploring the atmosphere and environment of Earth. For more details check out the Standard Course of Study put out by the state.

You will also find links on the left to my general classroom documents. The syllabus, class rule and expectations, and the classroom procedures will be given to students on day 1 and will be referenced throughout the year. Those will help you understand how I structure my classroom.

If there’s anything you would like to know, or would like me to add to this website please let me know. I’m always looking for new ideas to increase communication. I firmly believe it takes a village to raise a child.
